Intel Launches RealSense AI & Robotics Arm to Accelerate Automation Innovation


Intel has officially launched RealSense AI, a new subsidiary dedicated to advancing robotics, computer vision, and intelligent automation. The move represents Intel’s strategic push into high-growth sectors where artificial intelligence and machine perception are redefining how machines interact with the physical world.

Backed by a $50 million Series A funding round led by Intel Capital and the MediaTek Innovation Fund, RealSense AI will focus on developing smart robotics systems for industries such as logistics, manufacturing, healthcare, and retail.

“The timing is now,” said Nadav Orbach, CEO of RealSense AI. “We’re combining Intel’s legacy in silicon innovation with breakthroughs in machine learning and autonomous systems. Our goal is to make automation more intelligent, efficient, and adaptable to human environments.”

Focus Areas of RealSense AI

The RealSense AI team will develop:

  • AI-powered spatial vision and depth sensing

  • Autonomous navigation systems for robots and drones

  • Human-machine interaction tools

  • Edge computing platforms with low-latency processing

The company plans to introduce a new line of modular vision systems and robotics developer kits aimed at system integrators, research labs, and industrial automation firms.

Strategic Context

Intel’s decision comes amid growing global demand for AI-enabled robotics solutions. With enterprises facing labor shortages, rising operational costs, and pressure to optimize workflows, automation is no longer optional—it’s strategic.

Industry research suggests that the global robotics and intelligent systems market could exceed $62 billion by 2027, with growth driven by smart logistics, warehouse automation, and AI-assisted manufacturing.

RealSense AI will compete with existing players such as Nvidia’s Jetson platform and Qualcomm’s robotics SDK, but aims to differentiate through a combination of flexible architecture and deep integration with Intel’s hardware ecosystem.

Intel’s Broader Vision

This spinout aligns with Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger’s broader strategy of focusing on high-performance computing, AI acceleration, and vertical-specific innovations. By creating RealSense AI as a standalone entity, Intel aims to give the unit the agility and focus required to scale quickly in a competitive space.

Although Intel retains a controlling stake in the venture, RealSense AI will operate independently, allowing it to form new partnerships and attract talent from across the global robotics ecosystem.

Looking Ahead

RealSense AI has begun engaging with partners in North America, Europe, and the Middle East for pilot deployments across smart factories, autonomous warehouse fleets, and AI-powered retail checkout systems.

The launch of this subsidiary marks a significant step in Intel’s transformation journey—shifting from a legacy semiconductor player to a full-stack enabler of next-generation automation and AI infrastructure.
